Cookie Policy
Last updated: 8 July 2026
This policy explains the cookies and similar technologies EnergySorted uses, why, and how you control them. It works alongside our Privacy Policy.
1. Your consent controls analytics
When you first visit, analytics is off. We use Google Consent Mode v2: the analytics and advertising storage categories default to denied until you choose Accept in our cookie banner. If you have Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control enabled in your browser, we do not load analytics at all and the banner stays hidden.
You can change or withdraw your choice at any time using the Cookie settings link (also in the footer of every page).
2. Cookie categories
- Strictly necessary — required for the site to work, including keeping you signed in and protecting forms. These do not require consent.
- Analytics — help us understand how the site is used so we can improve it. Set only after you accept.
- Marketing — we do not currently run advertising cookies. The consent banner still defaults these to denied so nothing changes if that ever changes.
3. Cookies actually in use
| Name | Set by | Category | Purpose |
|---|---|---|---|
| es-consent | EnergySorted (browser storage) | Strictly necessary | Remembers your cookie choice so we do not ask again. |
| Session cookie | EnergySorted | Strictly necessary | Keeps you signed in to your account securely. |
| _ga | Google Analytics (via Google Tag Manager) | Analytics | Distinguishes visitors. Set only after you accept. |
| _ga_<container> | Google Analytics 4 | Analytics | Persists session state for GA4. Set only after you accept. |
| _gid | Google Analytics | Analytics | Distinguishes visitors (short-lived). Set only after you accept. |
| cf_clearance / __cf_bm | Cloudflare Turnstile | Strictly necessary | Bot-protection challenge on our forms (login, signup, password reset). |
Our Google Tag Manager container (GTM-TNVP7JP5) itself sets no tracking cookies; the Google Analytics cookies above are only written once you accept analytics.
4. Managing cookies in your browser
Besides our banner, you can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Blocking strictly-necessary cookies may stop you from signing in or using parts of the site.
This is a plain-English summary, not legal advice; a lawyer should review it before launch.
