Why so many homes pay more than they need to
A good plan goes stale
Prices are reset every year, usually from 1 July, and discounts and benefit periods run out. Nobody writes to tell you the plan you picked is no longer the one to be on.
Averages hide your home
Two homes using the same power can get very different bills. When you use it, what your solar exports and whether you have a battery decide which plan wins, and a “typical household” estimate sees none of that.
Most comparisons show a shortlist
Commercial comparison sites are usually paid by the retailers they list, and the ACCC found many show only their partners’ plans by default. A shortlist can’t tell you the cheapest plan in the market.

EnergySorted vs comparison sites like iSelect or Compare the Market?
Sites such as iSelect, Compare the Market and Canstar Blue are paid by retailers through referral commissions, so they typically show only the plans that pay them and rank by what earns them the most. EnergySorted takes no commissions. It compares every AER-listed retailer and ranks purely by what is cheapest for your usage, which is why it can recommend a plan a commissioned site never would.
Does switching energy plans interrupt my power or gas?
No. Your electricity and gas are delivered over the same poles, wires and pipes no matter which retailer bills you. Switching plans or retailers never cuts your supply, changes your reliability or requires any work at your property. The only thing that changes is who sends the bill and what you pay.
Which states and fuels does EnergySorted cover?
EnergySorted compares electricity and gas across the competitive national-market states: NSW, VIC, QLD, SA, Tasmania and the ACT. Western Australia and the Northern Territory are not on the national market, so there is no retailer to switch to there. The cheapest-fuel map is live in NSW and WA, with more states rolling out.
Is my bill data safe with EnergySorted?
